McAfee Stinger is a standalone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full
anti-virus protection, but a specialized tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with infected system. Stinger utilizes next-generation scan technology, including rootkit scanning, and scan performance optimizations. It detects and removes threats identified under the "Threat List" option under Advanced menu options in the Stinger application.
This standalone utility can detect viruses and remove them with ease, using advanced cloud-powered scanning technique that checks not only active processes, but also local storage, loaded modules, digitally signed DAT files, rootkit scanning, and can also recommend tips for optimizing the speed of your PC. New threat definitions are updated several times per week, enabling users to have access to up-to-date database with latest threats, including “
scareware” that can cause false alerts.
McAfee Stinger is not intended to be used by novices. This is a tool for seasoned users who already have lot of experience with dealing with infected systems, like system administrators or security experts that have gathered years of experience by working with threatened PC configurations.
